Welcome to the Girls on Film Research Project

Thank you for taking the time to visit this website to learn more about the Girls on Film Research Project.

About me:

My name is Amy; I am a Masters of Research student in Gender and Sexuality Studies at The University of Birmingham. I currently live in Sheffield. I am a queer, sex positive feminist in a monogamous relationship and have written several articles for online publications and blogs on pornography (under a pseudonym). It is writing and enduring interest in our society’s relationship to pornography, and how we view women in porn in particular, that has led to me conducting this research.

When I’m not writing about porn, watching porn, or talking about porn with my friends at the pub, I also act and direct in local amateur theatre groups. I also love craftivism and I work part time.

About the project:

My thesis, entitled ‘How Female Viewers of Pornography Perceive Female Performers and Producers’ explores the role of women in mainstream pornography and how they are perceived by women who watch pornography.

Through questionnaires and interviews I hope to establish how women who consume pornography feel about the women on screen and in decision-making roles.

This research has ethical approval from The University of Birmingham and will conclude by September 2019.
